Standards are therefore not laws, but 'best practices'. Everyone can take advantage of this on a voluntary basis. Standards play an important role in business agreements. They offer market parties clarity about and confidence in products, services or organizations and challenge society to innovate. Standards are not free. Sometimes the government refers to standards, which is why there are also a number of 'freely available standards' available.
NEN represents the interests of the Dutch market at an international level. As a Dutch standardization institute, Nen is a member of the European and international standardization networks CEN, CENELEC, ISO, IEC and ETSI. This makes NEN the gateway to international standardization for all companies and organizations in the Netherlands. We lead international secretariats in areas where the Netherlands has great expertise and interests.
